As a former polymer chemist employed at 3M, Dr. Story was volunteering at a free clinic where destiny changed her career path. "I enjoyed working with people, especially the counseling aspect, " states Dr. Story who received her medical degree from the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis. "I did my residency at Mercy Hospital in Denver, were I met my husband, Dr. Rik Santaguida." The two doctors moved to North Dakota where Dr. Santaguida completed his commitment to public health service. "We returned to Colorado and I worked at my private practice in Littleton for 10 years before joining Dr. Brekhus and Evergreen Family Medicine," Dr. Story relays.
The mother of five, who quips her hobby is laundry, has dedicated herself to her family and her profession. "I coach my patients and give them personalized advice. I don't expect them to do exactly as I say, but I want them to understand my recommendations."
Dr. Story is implementing a disease state management program into the practice so patients receive proper screening and follow-up. "I want to ensure that patients with chronic illness receive quality care, and no one falls through the cracks."
Our doctors and clinicians have wonderful communication skills. Our goal is not to see as many patients as we can in a day, but communicate and treat patients so they walk away fully satisfied with our services. Patients come to us with a condition or a worry, and we need to hear one another. Our mission is to provide the same care that we would give our own. |
