SOUTHWEST, P.C.

December 2003 Family Care Southwest opened the Heart Center at Family Care Southwest. At the beginning of 2007, Dr Sims and one of our Physician Assistants, Madelaine McCullough, attended a procedural training in Arizona on stress EKG or a.k.a. treadmill certifying them in the latest testing to help prevent heart attacks and strokes.

New Technologies at The Heart Center

bullet

Impedance Cardiogram or ICG: utilizes the latest in technology to non-invasively measure blood pressure, systemic vascular resistance, stroke volume and cardiac output.

Patients who have hypertension, who have been treated to goal by old conventional measurement methods to have dangerously elevated vascular resistance and a reduced cardiac output and stroke volume that can lead to serious heart damage if gone untreated, giving us the opportunity to improve our quality of care and prevent further damage to the heart.

bullet

Treadmill Stress Testing:  Although far from new in medical diagnostic testing, in medical technology to help do a better job of measuring the effects of exercise stress on the heart.

bullet

Weight Management with Resting Metabolic Rate Analysis and Body Composition Assessment:  Obesity is a well known risk factor of heart attacks and strokes.

Family Care Southwest takes weight management very seriously, and provide for our patients the latest in diagnostic analysis, with a complete variety of computer assisted food analysis and activity tracking technology.

Coupled with the patients' personal family physician's care,  Family Care Southwest provides personal consultation and classes to make sure that the patients lose the correct amount of weight ‘in the right way’ to decrease the risk of illness associated with obesity.

The Heart Center at Family Care Southwest is also aligning with Colorado Heart and Body Imaging, www.coloradoheart.com.   This is a state of the art center that evaluates early formation of calcified plaque in arteries. The Colorado Heart and Body Imaging is capable of total body scans, as well as virtual colonoscopy.
