Medicare Now covers Wellness
Visit
2010
Medicare came out with its Welcome to Medicare Visit. This year, 2011, they
cover the Wellness Visit. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) allows for a
preventive physical exam called the Annual Wellness Visit (AWV) and includes
Personal Prevention Plan Services (PPPS).

Medicare Wellness Visit Guideline *
1. Patients
who have had a Welcome to Medicare Physical with in 12 months are
not eligible for the Medicare
Wellness visit.
2.
100% covered by Medicare
3.
Visit will only include:
a.
Collection of information on all other physicians and suppliers
currently providing care to the patient.
b.
An Assessment of cognitive functions
c.
Development of a five – to – 10 year plan for obtaining recommended
preventative care.
d.
A list of risk factors that provider has identified, with current or
proposed treatment options including the benefits and risks associated with
these options.
e.
Furnish
personalized health advice and appropriate referrals to health education or
preventive services.
f.
Home safety
g.
Fall risk
h.
Ability to successfully perform actives of daily living
i.
Hearing impairment
j.
Voluntary advance care planning
k.
Update of Family and Medical history
l.
Record measurements
in height, weight, body mass index, blood pressure, and other routine
measurements.
m.
Detect any cognitive impairment
* Patients in their
first 12 months of Medicare part B coverage are eligible for the Welcome to
Medicare physical only not the Medicare Wellness visit.
